  • The electric contact water level gauge utilizes the principle of a communicating vessel to reflect the steam drum water level into the measuring cylinder. By leveraging the difference in electrical conductivity between steam and water through electrodes installed in the measuring cylinder, it illuminates different red and green lights to display the steam drum water level. As unit capacity increases and operating parameters rise, the measurement error of the electric contact water level gauge also increases. Compared to medium and high-pressure boilers, the electric contact water level gauge installed in the 700MW subcritical boiler at Zhuhai Power Plant shows a significantly larger measurement error. The measurement error of the electric contact water level gauge is primarily caused by the measuring cylinder part of the water level sensor. By analyzing the structural characteristics and dynamic properties of the electric contact water level gauge, the characteristics of its measurement error are examined, providing a theoretical basis for improving its design, installation, and application to minimize measurement error as much as possible. Composition of the Electric Contact Water Level Gauge: The electric contact water level gauge includes—a measuring cylinder, electrodes, electrode connection cables, and an electrode controller. Measuring Cylinder: The measuring cylinder is made of large-diameter, thick-walled carbon steel extruded material, seamless steel pipe, or stainless steel pipe. The design and manufacturing of the seamless steel pipe comply with ASME B31.1 requirements for power piping. The measuring cylinder facilitates the condensation of saturated steam and vapor while minimizing temperature loss. The circulation of cold water within the measuring cylinder continuously flushes the container and electrodes, preventing the accumulation of sediment. The maximum temperature of the measuring cylinder can reach 600°C at 30 MPa. Electrodes: Electrodes are probes that detect water/steam and are the core of the entire electric contact water level gauge system. The electrodes are made of special stainless steel, with insulators made of high-purity ceramics. The pressure seal between the ceramic and metal body is achieved through a vacuum welding process. The contacts are treated with a special gold-plating process to avoid wear. All electrodes undergo ammonia leak testing, static pressure testing, and voltage testing.
